Securing your baby’s oral health for the future!
Formation of milk teeth begins even before you are sure that you have conceived!!
That is during the 6-8th week or by second month of pregnancy and that of permanent teeth by 5th month of pregnancy.
So any nutritional deficiency during this period can lead to defective tooth structure, defective integrity and strength of supporting structures like gums, bone, inner lining of mouth, salivary glands.
The nutrients that are important for formation of healthy teeth and supporting structures are:
Calcium, Phosphorous, Fluoride: All minerals are building blocks of teeth. Deficiency can lead to compromised tooth integrity, weaker tooth structure, that is more prone for decay.
Vitamin D, Potassium: They help in absorbing calcium and in turn, improving bone density and thus ensuring strong jaw bones. Deficiency can affect the availability of sufficient calcium for development and strengthening of crystalline structure of tooth.
Proteins: They are highly crucial in formation of healthy teeth and other structures of oral cavity. Deficiency can lead to delayed eruption of teeth. It can also affect salivary gland development and functioning.
Vitamin C: The protein in dentin, the tooth layer, is collagen, which is dependent on vitamin C for normal synthesis. Vit C strengthens tissues and promotes wound healing. It is also crucial in gum health and teeth stability. Deficiency leads to irregular dentin formation and affects structure of tooth pulp. Reduced Vit C in the body is associated with bleeding from gums, gingivitis, and periodontitis.
Make sure you have an adequate supply of these nutrients to secure your baby’s excellent oral health !
